Contractors Insurance 101

In this article, we will focus on contractors insurance and provide a brief overview of what it covers.

  • Liability Insurance – Contractors insurance includes liability coverage. If your team accidentally damages a client’s property during a project, or someone who’s not a part of your crew gets injured on your site, then your liability protection will apply. This form of coverage exists to help with legal costs associated with a liability suit—if someone decides to sue you for negligence, this coverage will pay a certain amount toward the legal fees and damages.
  • Builder’s Risk Insurance – Contractors insurance also includes coverage for damage caused by natural disasters. For example, if the roof you are building is damaged in a hurricane before you are finished installing it, then your builder’s risk insurance will cover the costs of replacing the damaged materials.
  • Workers’ Compensation Insurance – A third type of coverage included in contractors insurance is workers’ compensation. If one of your crew members gets injured on the job, this form of coverage will help pay for the employee’s medical care. In addition, it will help cover the employee’s lost wages during the time when they are recovering, and even if they are unable to return to work.
